Shariah Graduate Trainee Program
We recognise that developing a Hong Leong Islamic Banking professional begins at the entry point of one’s career and requires a structured approach. The Hong Leong Islamic Bank Shariah Graduate Trainee Programme provides the opportunity for fresh graduates to gain valuable experience and knowledge in the field of Islamic banking.
It aims to provide a comprehensive learning experience to young talents keen to pursue a career in Islamic banking, tailored to their career orientation. We strive to build competencies around strength, through actual work related challenges and continuous learning opportunities.
During the 1 year program, you will be assigned to a supervisor as soon as you start. He or she will help to facilitate what you want from career decisions and the best way to achieve it within the organisation. Each area has its own tailored development agenda based on a standardized Hong Leong Islamic Bank framework which includes:
- Classroom-based and facilitator-led training
- Web-based or online virtual learning
- Rotation attachments at business functions and support units
- Professional certification
- Coaching and Mentoring
- Project-led assessments

Bachelor Degree or Masters’ Degree in the following fields:
- Fiqh and Usul Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence and its Foundation), Comparative Fiqh, Fiqh and Fatwa
- Shariah or Islamic Studies majoring in Islamic Banking, Economics, Management, Law or Fiqh Muamalat
- Islamic Economics or Islamic Banking
- Law and Law Shariah (LL.B and LL.B.S)
Qualification from the following local universities will be an advantage:
- International Islamic University (IIUM);
- University of Malaya (UM).
- With CGPA of 3.0 and above with strong result in Arabic based subjects.
Qualification from the following foreign universities will be an advantage:
- University of Jordan, Yarmouk University, Ali al-Bayt University and Mu’tah University - Jordan
- Al-Azhar University and Cairo University – Egypt
- Islamic University of Madinah and Umm al-Qura University - Saudi Arabia (with result of Jayyid Jiddan and above.)
Others:
- Strong determination to excel in a career in Islamic Banking
- Possess good interpersonal and leadership skills
- Good command of Arabic and English language
